The Manhole Monitoring Device (MMD) is designed to continuously monitor the position and status of manhole covers.
Integrated with a cloud-based management platform, the system enables scheduled maintenance planning for underground infrastructure and provides real-time alerts whenever unauthorized access or unexpected movement is detected.
Alarm notifications, including the precise location of the affected manhole, are transmitted via cellular networks to the control center and displayed on an interactive map, allowing operators to respond quickly and efficiently.
Typical Applications
The MMD solution is designed for utility companies, municipalities and infrastructure operators responsible for underground assets.
It helps to:
Prevent unauthorized manhole opening and theft of manhole covers.
Detect unauthorized access to underground infrastructure.
Monitor maintenance crews by recording the opening and closing times of each manhole.
Detect flooding caused by pipeline failures, groundwater, stormwater or seasonal flooding.
Plan preventive maintenance based on real operating data.
Monitor the status of distributed underground infrastructure from a single cloud platform.
Device Components
The MMD unit is installed underneath the manhole cover locking mechanism, where it is protected against accidental damage.
The solution is suitable for:
dry manholes;
flooded manholes;
utility chambers;
sewer systems;
wastewater infrastructure;
cable tunnels and underground utility networks.
The cloud platform collects, stores, analyzes and visualizes all sensor events, providing operators with complete visibility of manhole status across the network.
Mounting Options
MMD 10-1
Mount the MMD 10-1 on the underside of the manhole cover.
After power-up and installation of the manhole cover, the MMD 10-1 automatically determines its position along the X, Y, and Z axes.
The device automatically sets the allowable deviation limit to ±3° for each axis.
Contactless monitoring of manhole cover position
Automatic calibration after installation
Up to 35° installation angle
Vibration filtering to eliminate false alarms
LTE NB-IoT communication with NIDD technology
